Exclusive: Want to Win KENZO's Tiger top?

$

Yup, you read that right. Through my blog, you could actually win one of the hottest and the most wanted piece around, KENZO's Tiger top. For S/S 2013 KENZO had translated that raw natural energy into an urban language for Spring, with jolts of ice blue and pale pink, with geometric and organic patterns. They’ve combined their love of utility, found in versatile multifunctional pieces, with sensuality and fluidity, baring a lot of skin, and pairing tailoring with looser silhouettes.

KENZO Dubai has collaborated with Confashions to give you the chance to own the "it" piece of the season. It's simple and easy. So what a girl gotta do to get the tiger top? All you have to do is answer the following multiple-choice questions:

Who designed KENZO's jewelry collection for S/S 2013?
  • Gaia Repossi
  • Delfina Delettrez
  • Stella McCartney
What was the main inspiration for the S/S 2013 collection?
  • The jungle
  • Sea life
  • Rainbow
Name the designer duo behind the brand now?
  • Riccardo Tisci and John Galliano
  • Humberto Leon and Carol Lim
  • Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana

Send the answers via e-mail to info@confashionsfromkuwait.com with your full name, mobile number, and delivery address. The deadline for this competition is Monday 3rd June 2013

Speaking of KENZO, don't they have the coolest accessories?! The blue piping on the sunglasses  shown below look like neon lights, and remember those tiger arms in my previous post here

    ORA Boutique

Last week I had the pleasure to attend the re-opening of ORA boutique. They owners, Ahmad Al Reshaid and Marco De Nardi, have relocated the boutique from Omniya Mall in Salmiya to the mezzanine 1 of Salhiya Complex. A great decision they have made as I felt the boutique is more accessible now, not to mention the convenience of having a huge parking space all around the area.

The interior of ORA, which means "now" in Italian, is a mix of industrial and hip. The style selection is  amazing and so unique  I ended up buying a skirt and a vest. The selection is mostly representing Italian fashion brands, 13 to be exact and exclusively stocked at ORA, from new and emerging fashion designers with a focus on premium streetwear. Brands such as Carlo Contrada, who won the famous VOGUE ITALIA new designer to watch, Isabel Benenato, a Central St. Martin alumni who has unique edgy deconstructed designs using top notch natural elements like Italian pure wool and silk, Misuraca, who worked with British designer John Richmond and is known for its elegant designs, Avelon offers an uber-chic selection of pieces using interesting materials like viscose, silk, and wool ideal for women of all ages, Barbara Gongini, a Danish designer who studied and is currently working in Milano offers a selection of extremely edgy designs using simple cotton, and so much more.

ORA boutique's future plans includes regional expansion, I wonder where they're planning to launch next, as well as hosting various in-store events. Here's a quick look of the inside of the store.

    Accessories That Define a Look

Accessories are often overlooked. As a wardrobe essential, they can make all the difference in your outfit. Actually sometimes when I'm thinking of what to wear to a certain occasion, I first scan my accessories, shoes to be more specific, and try to build my outfit around the chosen accessory. So buying a bag or a belt, or even a pair of new shoes is a big deal to me. They have to do all the talking. And you know what's the best part is? These accessories are super easy to grab or put on and manage to make a huge impact, without worry about gaining weight!

I was browsing the shop floor of AlOthman boutique and spotted 4 items in the accessories category that caught my fashion radars. The first item is Victoria Beckham's two-tone oversized clutch shown in the photo above. It looks so practical and roomy! As for the jeweled box clutch shown below by Jason Wu, it looks like something you'd fetch from your mother's collection of gorgeous vintage pieces. And then I fell head-over-heels in love with Tabitha Simmons fishy heels! The print is just beyond cute! And last but not least, that Edie Parker box clutch, I love it, but I can't justify another purchase of Edie Parker since I already have one, previous post here

We normally associate shopping online to buying mass-produced merchandise that fills the shelves of  a retailer. DesignedByCulture.com is anything but that. This is not your typical online store. It's merchandise selection is driven by travels to faraway cultures. Everything in this website is chosen and selected for its handmade qualities and uniqueness.

"I love to travel so I am a backpacker at heart. During my trips to places like Kenya, Nepal and Peru I come across beautiful cultures and sometimes local artists." expressed the owner of DesignedByCulture.com. "This is where the idea of starting DesignedByCulture.com a kinda blogshop where I bring back some pieces i found from my trips or (mostly now) work with artists that i came across and believe in their work and hence introduce them to Kuwait."

I fell in love with the Munecas dolls, they're hand-made and dressed with hand-woven alpaca wool which, according to the site, can be felt from their weight.

The owner of  DesignedByCulture.com will be holding the wevsite's first exhibition at Treak located in Al Tilal Complex on 4th of June. It will be for a Peruvian artist Vacidel. She designs handmade recycled art to be worn rather than accessories. Her work was also exhibited in NY, Chicago and Latin America Bienale.

It really is interesting to get to see what happens behind the scenes of a fashion show. This backstage video is of Lanvin's A/W 2013 collection. According to the description of the video clip "the Lanvinstudio is a laboratory of emotions in which fabric is the means to express every metamorphosis and bright idea. Stories are told in sparkling letters, and the words "Love", "You", "Hot", "Cool" become medallions that glitters in the night."

I call toady's outfit the first-graders big art project. I bought it last year from boutique N and it was my first Vika Gazinskaya purchase. For some reason, it has the ability to lift my mood in an instant. I guess there's something about the scribbles of crayon on plain canvas, they just make me happy. I paired it with my green mini-Chanel perforated cross bag, which I bought ages ago, and a pair of this season's Pierre Hardy heels, which I bought from Symphony boutique in Dubai last month or so.

    Exclusive: Nass Boutique

I have been invited by the lovely owner of NASS boutique Ms. Lujain Al Shalfan for a private preview of her multi-brand boutique. The moment I stepped in and browsed the selection of the ready-to-wear and accessories on display, I instantly knew that this will be a major destination for fashion lovers shopping around The Avenues. And just like any other fashion-obsessed person, I suddenly stopped focusing on the main objective of my visit to the boutique, and experienced this adrenaline rush, which I usually get when I see so many beautiful things to try on and potentially buy. So instead of me taking notes and photos of the merchandise and interior of the boutique, I began to pick out the pieces that caught my fashion radar.

Luckily, Lujain interrupted my fashion fantasy, and walked me through the gorgeous selection on the floating display. And described for me the history behind each brand. The selection was a mixture of established designers and emerging ones. I recall seeing pieces by Ostwald Helgason, Monies, Ben Amun, Venessa ArizagaLublu Kira Plastinina, and JILL Jill Stuart evening gowns and cocktail dresses, which range between KD 70 and KD 120, amazing prices wouldn't you say?? The mix of merchandise ensures that the store’s collection is accessible to almost anyone and everyone. Of course I LOVED Monies's statement necklaces and bracelets, exactly what I need to dress up my Ramadan caftan and of course other plain tops and dresses. Scroll down to get a sneak peek of what's available now in-store...

NASS boutique is currently open and you can shop there starting tomorrow. It's located in The Grand Avenues, close to Elevation Burger.

Loved this skirt! Comes with a bow detail which zippers, you can actually use it to keep your keys/money whatever and walk around hands-free!

I got one of these clutches! So in love!

Ben Amun accessories, known to be worn by Jackie O 30 years ago

If you ever visit the boutique, make sure to check out the collaboration between international fashion blogger Man Repeller and Patterson J. Kincaid.

Lujain has also introduced me to a brand that is stocked in several boutiques in Paris, Saint Tropez, and Sauce boutique in Dubai. When she started this intro I assumed that it's a european brand. later I was surprised to find out that it's actually by a Kuwaiti Fashion designer Eman Aldukhan. Her brand is called Emanmoon. I couldn't find a website or anything online about the brand. However I did take these photos of a shrunken bisht-like top and a skirt by Emanmoon. It's amazing to be stocked and known by the biggest boutiques on the international level.

I have received this via the PR team of Qatar Museums Authority, apparently QMA and Fondazione Prada announced the launch of Curatea global competition to find new curating talent, the first of its kind.

Curate opens up and challenges people’s ideas of what an exhibition can be. It will provide one winner with the unprecedented opportunity to curate their own exhibition, the exhibition of their dreams.

A world-renowned Jury will judge ideas on their creativity and social significance, rewarding those with a contemporary and culturally relevant point of view. Participation in the competition is not limited to aspiring or established curators, but is open to anyone with a great concept for creative expression, with the emphasis on encouraging young people to compete, whether as individuals or as collaborative groups.

Twenty finalists will be selected by the Jury, and will be showcased on the Curate website, giving an opportunity to the public to vote on their favourite project. The winner will be announced in Spring 2014.

The Jury is: Her Excellency Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad Al-Thani, Chairperson, Qatar Museums AuthorityMiuccia Prada, President, Fondazione Prada;  Rem Koolhaas, architect, urban theorist, founder, OMA; Nadine Labaki, Lebanese film-maker and actress; Nawal El Moutawakel, the first woman from a Muslim majority country to win an Olympic gold medal; and Hans Ulrich Obrist, codirector, Serpentine Gallery, London.

This is amazing! I'd love to participate in something like that but I need to find a really original concept, AND someone who has the skills to create a video presentation! It's worth giving a shot, no?

If you're a neat freak like me, you will love this! I came across a very chic and practical clutch from Zac Posen's lower-priced diffusion line Z SpokeatAlOthman's Accessories Outlet the other day. The suede and leather travel clutch has one inside open pocket, one inside zip "Currency" pocket, and four inside compartments with "Tickets", "Passport", "Documents" and "Misc" labels. This will definitely keep me fashionably organized wherever I travel. And the best part? The price tag? If my memory serves me right, it was around KD 30 more or less.

AlOthman's Accessories Outlet is located at Maryam Complex in Salmiya.

Four letters, one word.... HAWT! I am obssessed with these heels from Dior's Spring/Summer 2013 collection. Featuring pointy toe and rose-colored shiny lacquer detail, these are probably one of the best heels I saw this season. I spotted them at the brand's boutique in the Avenues recently and I hoping they'll go on sale soon and I'd get to find them in my size too.

    Just Like Celine...

I haven't done one of my "Just Like..." posts for quite sometime! If you're following me on instagram, you have probably seen this already. If not, here it goes..

So this is a no-brainer, Zara was "inspired" by Celine's rolled leather clutch, which I have previously posted about here. Apparently this comes with a long shoulder strap, which makes it borderline tacky. As long as it's held as a clutch, I think it will look ok.
