BLAQ Concept Store

What do you do when a girl whom you've been secretly crushing over her sense of style opens up a multi-brand concept store? You cancel all your plans for the day and zoom head straight to her new fashion home, aka the store. That's exactly what I did when I heard Sarah Al Mussalam, one of the co-founders of BLAQ, opened up a concept store for men and women at Shuwaikh's Altelal Complex. Naturally and as expected, it did not disappoint on brands selection, price, or service. The cool thing was that I felt right at home from the moment I walked in the door, on my left was a seating area that could perfectly fit into any modern-loving home, and to my right was a small kitchenette with it's cozy seating area, which soon will be a full-functioning cafe for passer-bys and shoppers. As for the majority of the space, it was dedicated to women's and men's clothes and accessories.

The softly-opened store BLAQ  offers a selection that will sate both the religiously fashionable and the occasional dabbler. I found mind blowing pieces by one of my favorite up-coming designers Palmer Harding. Finding out that this brand is actually stocked in Kuwait was like "That's it! You guys sealed the deal and I'm officially in love with you!!". Other brands include Toga footwear, Dominic Jones jewelry, Aamaya Priyanka jewelry, Paul & Joe, Opening Ceremony, YMC, Alexandra D. Foster luxury silk cushions, and much more. Have a quick scroll down to get an idea of what's BLAQ like.

"An official grand opening is set to happen soon, for now we're just testing the waters", expressed Sarah. I say go there ASAP to get your hands on the best of the best.

News Flash: Ralph Lauren Giant Ricky Bag is Coming to K-Town!

After New York and Paris, the Ralph Lauren Giant Ricky Bag is coming to Kuwait as the first Middle East stop of its World Tour at the Avenues starting from next week!

To celebrate the launch of the newest “Soft,” “Mini” and “Chain” variations on its iconic Ricky Bag, Ralph Lauren is exhibiting a spectacular “Giant Ricky Bag” at stores around the world. Taking cues from the Soft Ricky Bag, its beautifully crafted archetype, the Giant Ricky took a team of four expert artisans approximately one month to create. Echoing the supple silhouette and handwork throughout — from shaping to creasing to tacking — the Giant Ricky is beautifully outfitted with all of the Soft Ricky’s authentic details, from Italian-made leather construction to its key bell, grommets and functioning lock. Six feet tall and five feet wide, the Giant Ricky Bag is over four times the size of the Soft Ricky and weighs approximately 250 pounds (that's around 120 kilo grams!).

The exhibit travelled from Galeries Lafayette in Paris to the Ralph Lauren flagship store on Saint Germain and then onto the recently reopened Palais Galliera, the museum of fashion. After Paris, the Clementine Giant Ricky travelled to the Ralph Lauren flagship New Bond Street store in London before departing for the Maximilianstrasse store in Munich.

Yowza! That's one hell of a bag! Big enough to stuff half of my closet inside! Actually, it would make the perfect dream bag for travelling, if only it would pass the security check...

Those Interlocking CCs and the Pearls...

Chanel accessories are probably impossible to get tired of or get rid of. Yes we might stop wearing them for a while but we always go back to them even if it's after a period of years. That's the beauty of Chanel's interlocking CCs and the pearls. I bought  pearl necklace from the brand almost 9 years ago and I still wear them from time to time. And you know what's weird? Whenever I visit Salhiya Complex for any or no particular reason, I just have to pass by the Chanel boutique to check out what;s new. It's like a magnet! Anyhow, is it just me or is the Salhiya branch has more variety that its branch in Prestige the Avenues? I spotted a selection of new accessories such as oversized pearl necklaces, patent leather boy bags in bright gem colors, and shoes decorated with strings of pearls. Such an eye candy for  Chanel fanatics. Scroll down and have a look...

If you've been following me on instagram (@confashions), you'd have probably seen my posts on AlOthman Boutique's recent event, Caftan AlOthman. In celebration of launching Oscar de la Renta's caftans collection, the boutique has handpicked amazing local designers to design limited edition and  exclusive pieces for AlOthman Boutique. The designers who have participated were Reem Al HumaidanJallabiya by Reem Al Subih, Ghain Ghada by Showg Al Mudhaf, Dal by Dana Al Qabandi, and last but not least Ha'a by Hanan Al Joaan. It was beautiful sight seeing people supporting local talents and mingling with the designers, already 3 out of 5 participating collections have completely sold out by the next day! I sometimes secretly wish I had the creativity and talent to design caftans, but it's too much headache for me... for now at least.

The Bird and the Kitten

I'm in love with these sculptures of a fat bird and a kitten. I've spotted them a while back at Dar Al Funoon, but I forgot the name of the artist. And of course whenever I remember to call and ask Dar Al Funoon it's either in the middle of the night, like now, or when their office is closed. So I decided to post their photos here in hopes one of my art-loving readers might enlighten me.

Aubade Jewelry

If the sight of a full-arm-party of Cartier's and Van Cleef's is too much for you to handle (or if like me it turns you off), you must/should/have to stop by Aubade Jewelry, a newly-open and carefully curated boutique of fine jewelry from around the world. Located at Salhiya Complex (mezzanine 1), the boutique offeres a selection by some of the most-coveted names in the field of stylish jewelry, think One Jewelry Los Angeles,  Jacquie Aiche,  Alison Lou, Anita Ko, Diane Kordas, and more.

I received an invite from the owner the drop-dead gorgeous Duha Al-Ramadhan last week to visit her boutique as she was hosting a private event in celebration of its opening. I browsed through the selection and I at least had my mind set on 4 different pieces! Her selection is perfect if you're looking for practical yet stylish jewelry for everyday's use. According to Duha, Aubade's selection is only sold in exclusive places such as Harrods, Barneys New York, Saks fifth avenue, Neiman Marcus, and Net A Porter.

The boutique's assortment of delicate, edgy, offbeat, and one-of-a-kind necklaces, rings, and bracelets can run a bit high. So best time to pass by would be the same day you get your salary credited to your account, alternatively you can go everyday if you can abuse your parents/hubby's credit cards.

You can check out their Instagram account @aubadejewelry to get an idea of what Aubade boutique carries or you can scroll down to get an idea of their selection.

Thank you Duha for inviting me and for your warm welcome, will sure pass by very soon to decide on what to get from my loooong wish list.

Loved how Najla Al Mishari of N by Najla paired her pearl bracelets with Aubade's crescent necklace worn as a bracelet! N you kill me with your style! hearts hearts hearts!

In the jungle, the mighty jungle, an exotic-skinned bag and heels sleep tonight. Yowza!! Look at these pretty beasts! I got this urge to strut around the city in these colorful serpent accessories by Jimmy Choo the moment I laid eyes on them. Can you just image how smashing they'd look with sun-kissed legs and a little white dress?! Spotted at the brand's boutique in Prestige.

Let me describe to you a scenario, you know that feeling you get when you randomly stumble upon a small shop while on vacation in NY's meatpacking district, or in Antibes, filled with so many goodies by unknown designers? That's exactly how I felt when I  not-so-randomly first stepped foot inside Coco & Zoey

Don't be fooled by its small space; this Shuwaikh-chic shop is well-curated and delivers an unexpected mix of established and up-and-coming designers for women who want to avoid high-end/magazine editorial looks and love lots of colors and prints. The racks are brimming with printed summery pieces for casual outings and dressier occasions. The accessories are more on the playful side and sourced from different parts of the globe too! Think Summer espadrilles all the way from georgia, tribal inspired fur-covered sandals from South Africa, tie-dye bags, and bohemian ethnic chic jewelry. Scroll down for more eye candy.

Coco & Zoey is located in Lily Center, souk 15, in Shuwaikh and they're open Saturdays to Thursdays from 11am to 1pm and from 3pm to 9pm.

These colorful cotton seperates are what every min-n-unmatch loving girl dream of! Of course my size was sold out.... what was I thinking :\

The budget-friendly book clutch! They're actually cute and priced at KD 50 more or less

Young girl, there's no need to feel down.

I said, young girl, pick yourself off the ground.
I said, young girl, 'cause JNBY is new to town
There's no need to be unhappy.

It's fun to shop at theJ.N.B.Y.
It's fun to shop at the J.N.B.Y.

Ok my apologies to you (and the Village people!) I got carried away a bit, but it's been a while since I last seen a really cool boutique that won't break the bank! Allow me to introduce you to Shuwaikh's latest shopping destination JNBY, which stands for Just Naturally Be Yourself. Beautiful right?!

So I was invited by the super sweet owner Arwa Al Ghanim to have a first look at her recently open store. Basically, it's a contemporary design driven brand which first launched out of Hangzhou China, and now has over 600 stores worldwide. It offers a vast selection of apparel and accessories for women, kids, and men (well men is coming soon, actually this september so stay tuned!).

Their women's selection makes any minimalist-loving heart skip a few fluttering beats. I can easily describe the designs in 4 words, functional, innovative, timeless, and extremely wearable! Think COS but with limited quantities, so you avoid these "who wore it better" situations, especially that we live in a small community. And the best part? The most expensive piece won't cost you more than KD 50! Total financial bliss! As for the kid's selection, it's more on the fun and colorful side, and can easily be mixed and matched with at least 2-4 items in-store (or even your kids wardrobe!). I have to worn you though, their sizes are a tad bit small (for women at least), but that's shouldn't be a problem if you're a fat-free lady. I bought 5 pieces from the store already, and planning on a re-visit very soon! Scroll down to get a quick view of the merchandise and the store.

Big thanks to Arwa for your warm welcome and to Sara Al Abdul Kareem for the lovely presentation and modeling. ;)

J.N.B.Y.is located at Shuwaikh's Lily Center. Opening hours are from 10am to 1pm and from 4:30pm to 9:30pm.

Event: Ralph Lauren's Ricky World Tour in Kuwait

Last Tuesday, Zainab Al Abdulrazzaq hosted an event at Ralph Lauren boutique in Prestige, the Avenues, to celebrate the launch of the newest “Soft,” “Mini” and “Chain” variations on its iconic Ricky Bag. On that occasion, Ralph Lauren exhibited a spectacular “Giant Ricky Bag”, that's 150cm wide x 122.3cm tall x 78.5cm deep and weighs a whooping 120kg to be more precise. And to put it more into perspective, over four times the size of the Soft Ricky.

Taking cues from the Soft Ricky Bag, its beautifully crafted archetype, the Giant Ricky took a team of four expert artisans approximately one month to create, and is beautifully outfitted with all of the Soft Ricky’s authentic details, from Italian-made leather construction to its key bell, grommets and functioning lock.

Naturally I chose to wear Ralph Lauren pieces, so I picked a cotton knitted dress with gorgeous leather fringed detail, which I wore as a skirt, and paired it with a Ralph Lauren sleeves high-low top, and an oversized silk blazer, all from the Black line of the brand. I instantly fell in love with the fringes, they just flew from side to side as I walked, and made me want to twirl the whole time! Proof? Check out the photo above. Caught on camera, and twirled a bit when there was no one around. Guilty of twirling.

The vibe was perfect! Cool and easy going crowd, I also liked the fact that I was able to browse the selection at ease without the pressure of socializing and mingling. In addition to my obsession with Ralph Lauren's fringed dress, I fell in love with the mini Ricky bag, the leather was as soft as butter! They only had two colors in store, the white and the baby blue pictured above. But They're getting more colors soon, perfect for the Travel season, and last but not least, I loved the velvet slippers which you can customize with your initials, they cost around KD 245 and take up to 8 weeks to be delivered to you, now would be the ideal time to pre-order them for the coming season. I should have placed an order during the event, as anyone who purchased anything during the event got the chance to enter a draw to win two-first class tickets to New York to attend Ralph Lauren's fashion show (front row seat of course) and a three night stay at the PLAZA Hotel. I wonder who won! Anyhow, scroll down for some highlights of the events and some style spotting.

Boutique Black Pearl is not new to my blog. I have previously featured the brand here and here. However, I only managed to pay its recently open boutique last week. The place, located at Lily Center in Shuwaikh Industrial Area, is a female MUST! First of all, the owner has an amazing sense of style, so it's a given that you'll find the best selection of the coolest accessories and jewelry. I personally find it hard to leave Boutique Black Pearl empty handed! And secondly, you'll find a great mix of fashionable accessories, which can make a great gift idea, and a more sophisticated fine yet young jewelry for everyday's use.  Scroll down for some of Boutique Black Pearl's eye-catching pieces.

AlOthman boutique's end-of-season sale is now on! And that's like music to my ears, well actually any high-end retailer that goes on sale is not only music to my ears but more like playing my ultimate favorit hit songs of the 80's and 90s!!! You can now enjoy 30% off favorite designers, including Isabel Marant, ErdemAlexander Wang, ACNE Studios and many more! Naturally my focus goes straight to accessories first, especially they're from the summer season which means more wearability for us.

My first pick goes to these stunning Alexander Wang tan leather and suede Malgosia lace-up sandal. Their color is perfect to pair with summer staples, and the detail on the back is just genius!

Nathalie Trad's mother of pearl and yellow resin box clutch designed with a magnetic closure is spacious enough to fit two iPhones, keys, lipstick, and a small credit cards wallet. I loved it and it's the LAST piece.

Stunning Derek Lam peep-two sandals with a graphic details and a laser-cut houndstooth pattern.

That Jason Wu sweat top with chiffon ruffled details is just INSANE! Sadly it wasn't so flattering on me, so I settled for this Elizabeth and James chain necklace, I think it would look nice for laying necklaces.

Beirut-based boutique Orient 499, known as the extravagant hub for all modern ethno-chic fashion, jewellery, furniture and home accessories with middle eastern twist, hosted an exhibition last week at Dar Al Funoon in Kuwait City with Iwan Maktabi. Exhibitions like these make me miss Beirut so much! I think the last time I've been there was like 5 or 6 years ago. I miss the sunny beaches and chilly mountains, walking around Saifi village to go have breakfast with my sister in law, and savoring the warm baked goodies in preparation for a busy day ahead.  Oh well, I hope I'll be able to visit Beirut soon. So last week I settled for the next best thing, visiting  Orient 499's exhibition. I went to check out their caftans collections and have a look at their home accessories. Of course the one caftan that I really liked had to cost KD 900+!! Whyyyy!! But according to the sales lady, that was a special piece and and took them 2-3 months to create mainly because there was copper hand-embellished details all over the caftans. So I decided to check out the home accessories and fell in love with wooden and mother-of-pearl nestling tables. The decorative wall items with arabic calligraphy stole the show. The smaller sized ones were priced at KD 100 only! A very good price I must say, I honestly thought they were more expensive than that. Here's a quick look of what I liked the most.

I spotted this Lizzie Furtonato'ssushi bun clutch at Boutique N in Burj Jassim the other day. Doesn't it make such a delightfully quirky cool gift for your foodie friend! According to the designer, she has designed the Sushi Bun clutch in collaboration with illustrator extraordinaire and close friend Bernadette Pascua, The illustrator beautifully watercolored the rolls and their embroiderers brought them to life, highlighting wasabi with light green threads and fish roe with neon beads. You can also find the clutch here.

Introducing AKS

My sweet good friend A introduced me to a new Bahrain-based brand last week. She discovered the brand when she participated in Al Nuwair Expo for her personal business, and instantly fell in love with the collection displayed in the booth next to her. AKS is the name of the brand and I tried to get more information about how the brand started and who's the talented brain behind the brand but so far I failed to find anything, except AKS's instagram account here. Thankfully my friend A managed to get the designer's lookbook and forwarded it to me. As I skimmed through its e-pages, I got drawn to the polished, feminine pieces with a laid-back feel. Soft silhouettes, delicate details and a pure palette defined the relaxed theme of the collection featured. So proud to be introduced to this talent from our region. I'm sharing with you here some of my favorite looks. Enjoy the beauty.

For further information about the brand, please send an e-mail to Sales@aa-ks.com.

Getting caught up in the daily grind makes me forget about visiting some of my favorite boutiques. It's been a while since I last posted about Boutique 4. So over the weekend I managed to visit the multi-brand store and browse their sale and non-sale items. What I love about this boutique is that I'm always bound to find something outrageously unique and hard-to-find pieces that keeps the fashion crowd guessing. This is THE place to stop in for an avant-garde fashion lover. The selection can be overwhelming sometimes as I browse rack to rack, mind you I browse the women's as well as the men's collection. I don't mind buying from their men's selection. In fact a bought a couple of oversized tops throughout the years. I spotted some really cool things, starting with Charlotte Olympia shoes (heart heart!).. scroll away my lovlies.

The perfect beach straw hat! I loved it! It looked more like an umbrella than a hat! Beautiful!

Gorgeous accessories with one pearl detail.

I sooooo want a pair (or two) of these Adidas by Raf Simons trainers. Unfortunately for me, they all come in men's sizes. You can also find them here.
